Researches on the relation between the blending ratio of chitosan fiber with other fibers and its antibacterial properties

RUAN Yong,SHI Dong-liang,JIN Mei-ju,QIAN Wei-jun(Ningbo Fiber Inspection Institute,Ningbo 315000,China)
The difference between chitin and chitosan is discussed based on their molecular structure, the fact that some residue of chitin will exist in all commercial chitosan fibers is stated in this paper. The antibacterial principle of chitosan is briefly introduced here, then antibacterial properties of chitosan fibers of different degree of dealatylation is compared;meanwhile, the best blending ratio of chitosan fibers with other fibers is preliminary discussed and studied here.Based on tests and comparison, the degree of dealatylation of chitosan fiber is higher, the antibacterial properties is better. If the degree of dealatylation of chitosan fiber is high enough, and the blend ratio of chitosan fiber is controlled at 5%~10%,related products can obtain ideal antibacterial properties.
