SPAD Value of Leaf at Different Positions on Main Stem in Potato as Influenced by Temperature and Photoperiod

SPAD(Soil and Plant Analyzer Development) value was measured for leaf at different positions on main stem of cv.Cooperation 88 and Atlantic under various temperature and photoperiod regimes in order to understand the influence of temperature and light on SPAD value and to see if there is any trend for the variation of SPAD value taken from leaf at different positions.Under the regimes of temperature and photoperiod set for this experiment,the SPAD value was high for upper 4 leaves,and it was decreased as leaf went downward.Under mild temperature and light(20℃ and 12 h),the SPAD value showed little variation.At the same leaf position,the SPAD value was high under mild temperature and light.The SPAD value was low under low temperature and short day length(15℃ and 8 h) as compared with both mild temperature and light and high temperature and long day length(25℃ and 16 h).Under all treatments,no significant difference was detected for SPDA value in upper four leaves of potato plant.When leaf size was considered,the third and fourth leaf from top of potato plant were suggested for determination of SPAD value.
