Cytogenetics and Morphology of the Derivatives from a Cross between Triticum aestivum and Apomictic Elymus rectisetus

Elymus rectisetus is the only specie known with apomixes in the tribe of Triticeae. In order to obtain stable T. aestivum-E. rectisetus alien addition lines or substitution lines, the cytogenetics and morphology of (T. aestivum-E. rectisetus) BC2F2 derivatives were studied. The results showed that chromosome numbers in the root tips of BC2F5-BC2F7 plants ranged from 22 to 50, the plants with (2n = 42) and the plants with (2n = 44) were 38% and 35. 9%, respectively among the plants investigated. Chromosome configurations of hybrid F1 between 2n = 42 = 21", 2n = 44 = 22" lines and Fukuhokomugi (T. aestivum) were 18"+ 6'and 21"+ 1', respectively. The results showed that three pairs of wheat chromosomes in three 2n=42 lines were substituted by chromosomes of E. rectisetus, and the three 2n = 44 lines obseved were alien disomic addition lines. Morphologically, the derivatives were similar to T. aestivum.
