Relationship on Source and Sink in Different Varieties of Winter Wheat and Its Improvement

To increase wheat yield and give references to wheat breeding,we took multipleear,intermediate and bigear winter wheat variekies as materials,and studied the relationship and coordination between source(leaf) and sink(seed) by the ways of cutting leaves,cutting ears by 50% and measuring the ratio of grain and leaf(grain number/flag leaf area,GN/FLA;grain weight/flag leaf area,GW/FLA),respectively.The results showed that: ① In all the varieties,when leaf is cut partially,the rest will compensate the loss but not completely;② Area of the flag leaf in orders is large ear variety multiple ear variety medium ear variety,area of the flag leaf per plant is multiple ear variety large ear variety medium ear variety;③ Potential of the sink is small ear variety medium ear variety large ear variety;④ Both the GN/FLA and GW/FLA is medium ear variety multiple ear variety large ear variety.Therefore we should take different methods when we need to improve their characters of source and sink.For large ear variety,we need to increase ear-tillering ratio(make its flag leaf smaller at the same time),the number of spikelets and the number of grains per ear,make its plant type more compact,improve the leaf photosynthetic efficiency,and so on;multiple ear variety should increase peduncle length and other green parts,or improve the leaf photosynthetic efficiency; the medium ear one can increase its source by enlarging the leaves' area besides the ways used in small ear variety,and to broaden its sink,we can promote its grain fullness or increase its fertile florets per spike.
