Grain Filling and Photosynthetic Characteristics of Wheat Varieties Differing in Senesced-yellowing Type

In order to provide theoretical reference for wheat breeding of high yield and good grain filling characteristics,a study was carried out on genotypic variation of grain filling and the contribution of ear,stem and leaf on grain filling were determined with three wheat varieties differing in senesced yellowing pattern.The results showed that there was significant difference in grain filling,leaf chlorophyll content,and photosynthetic rate among varieties of early senescent yellowing,gray-white yellowing and whole body yellowing.For gray-white and early senescent yellowing,leaf chlorophyll content declined earlier and quickly,flag leaf photosynthetic rate was low,and the grain filled much more during early-middle stage and less in late stage.But for whole body yellowing type,leaf chlorophyll content declined later and slowly,flag leaf photosynthetic rate was quick,the contribution of ear,stem and leaf to grain filling was higher,as a result,the average grain filling rate and grain plumpness index was higher.In conclusion,the character of whole body yellowing should be an important criterion for high-yielding selection in wheat breeding.
