Effect of total saponins of panax ginseng(TSPG)on the production of hematopoietic growth factors

Wang Yong;Zhu Bide;Wang Yaping(Department of Histology and Embryology,Chongqing University of Medical Sciences,Chongqing 630046)
Using the techniques of hematopoietic progenitor cells culture in vitro and bioassays of interleukins(IL),the biological activities of culture supernatants of murine splenic cells, macrophages and fibroblasts induced by TSPG were analysed. The results indicated that the colony-stimulating factor(CSF) and IL-6 activity of TSPG induced groups were markedly higher than that of control. The IL-2 activity of the culture supernatants of TSPG induced splenic cells was higher than that of control, while those culture supernatants of macrophages and fibroblasts induced by TSPG had no significant difference compared with that of control. It was suggested that TSPG could induce the production of such hematopoietic growth factors as CSF and IL-6,and consequently promote the hematopoiesis in mice.
