Dynamic changes of green space landscape and ecological value under the rapid urbanization in Beilun of Ningbo

Urban green space is an important part of urban natural ecosystem. The southeast coastal area is one of the fastest developing urban areas in China, and rapid urbanization leads to a remarkable increase in construction land and a significant change in regional landscape patterns and landscape ecological values. Located in the southeast coast of China, Beilun is selected as the case-study area in this work. With Arc GIS and Fragstats software, and based on the land use data of 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015, the dynamic evolution of green space landscape and its ecology value in the background of rapid urbanization are analyzed by applying landscape ecology method and expert knowledge-based ecosystem service evaluation method. Its main findings are as follows: 1) Green space is the main landscape in Beilun area, and the rapid urbanization is turning 1406 square kilometers green space to construction space. 2) The heterogeneity of the green space landscape declines in Beilun, manifesting the growing centralization and declining overall fragmentation; 3) In 2015, the landscape ecology service values of green space decreased by 6% comparing with 1990. The main reason for the decline lies in the green space occupied by construction land; 4) The ecology value of green space system is gradually changing from high value areas to low value areas by moving southeast. In the pattern of the irregular ring, the level of ecological value of green space system is going down from the center to the periphery.
