The Biosorption of Copper(Ⅱ) by Discarded Brewers Yeast

The discarded brewers yeast obtained from brewery was used as bio-absorbent.The biosorption of copper ion by discarded brewers yeast was studied.The content of Cu2+ was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry(AAS) analysis.It is shown that sorption time,temperature,pH,yeast recruitment,and Cu2+ initial concentration influence the biosorption of Cu2+.The optimal sorption conditions for discarded brewers yeast were as follows: pH 4.0,Cu2+ concentration 100 mg·L-1,yeast recruitment 1.0 g·L-1,sorption temperature 25 ℃,sorption time 2.5 hours.Under these conditions,the biosorption capacity was 91.82±0.54 mg·g-1.The blank and copper-sorption yeast were studied by Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy.The hydroxyl and carboxyl absorption bands have obvious change after copper ion was absorbed.It is testified that hydroxyl and carboxyl are important for biosorption.
