The Ecological and Environmental Significance of Biomarkers and Their Research Prospects

Biomarkers,the remnant of organisms formed in the stratum in the geological period after the lengthy geological reformation,could still remain their original C-structure to a varying extent.Based on sampling with high resolution,the biomarkers can reveal paleo-biological and paleo-environmental changes of ten years period,one hundred years period or one thousand years period.This paper summarizes the latest progress of biomarkers study on lacustrine sediments,marine sediments,soil,peat sediments,loess,glacier,aerosol and cave stalagmite,reviews the main achievements and basic problems,and shows the prospects in this field.
