Hydrolysis of common cordgrass by concentrated sulfuric acid and its potential to produce biofuels by fermentation

The key factors affecting the hydrolysis of common cordgrass by concentrated sulfuric acid were optimized using Orthogonal Experimental Method.The optimized hydrolysis conditions are that the concentration of sulfuric acid is 50%,the hydrolyzing temperature is 50 ℃,the hydrolyzing time is 60 min,the granularity of common cordgrass is10~20 meshes and the solid content is 1∶9(w/w).The yield of reducing sugar is 36% under this condition.The main sugar compositions are glucose and xylose in this common cordgrass hydrolysate.Using the recombinant yeast strain 6508-127,8.9 g/100 g(ethanol/ common cordgrass) was produced by fermentation of the common cordgrass hydrolysate.Using the yeast strain Rhodosporidium.toruloides As 2.1389,6.4 g/100 g(biolipid/common cordgrass) was produced by fermentation of the common cordgrass hydrolysate.
