Failure analysis and prevention of longitudinal crack on FTSC thin slab in Tang Steel

An investigation was made of the features and formation mechanism of the longitudinal surface cracks occurring on FTSC thin slab,based on the production experience with the FTSC caster at Tang Steel.It was found that carbon and sulfur contents in steel,the taper of the slab,the performance of mould flux,the casting velocity,and the superheating degree of the molten steel had striking effects on the formation of the crack.Corresponding preventive measures against the crack were then put forward.
