Research and Prospect on the Technique for Bolt Axial Stress Measurement

This paper focuses on the principle and methods of ultrasonic measurement of bolt axial stress.Challenges and new thoughts for research on this technique are also pointed out.A piezoelectricity sensing-typed bolt with a layer of piezoelectric ceramic on its head is made to produce a small portable ultrasonic tester characterized by the system of ultrasonic transmitting and receiving devices,signal acquisition devices and analytical processing.Ultrasonic will be generated after the piezoelectric layer is stimulated by high-voltage pulses from the transmitting device of the tester.The return signal in the bolt will be received,analyzed and processed by receiving device.Meanwhile,the current stress state of the bolt will be reflected on the screen.This approach can avoid some errors caused by coupling layer non-uniformity and achieve high-accuracy control of stress and preload of bolts.
