Effects of Different Modifiers on Rice Growth and Pb & Cd Contents of Rice and Soil in Pb-Cd-Contaminated Paddy Field

The present study was conducted in Pb-Cd-contaminated rice field in Chenzhou of Hunan Province in 1999 in order to clarify the function of several modifiers. Using 4 kinds of modifiers and at 3 dose levels for application,the effects of different modifiers on rice growth and yield formation,Pb and Cd content of brown rice and soil,and forms of soil Pb Cd were investigated. It was discovered that all treatments, except medium and high amount lime, had improved rice growth and yield. In addition, all treatments decreased the contents of effective Pb Cd in brown rice and soil. It may be concluded that the effects of different modifiers on the forms of soil Pb Cd highlighted in the decrease of exchangeable form and increase of carbonate and special absorption form. There clearly existed differences between different treatments.
