Effects of Fertilizers on the Cr(Ⅲ) Adsorption on Paddy Soil

Effects of six fertilizers, Ca(NO3)2, NH4Cl, NH4NO3,CO(NH2)2, KH2PO4 and KCl, on the isotherm adsorption of Cr(Ⅲ) on paddy soil were studied using batch equilibrium experiments. The results showed that the adsorption of Cr(Ⅲ) on paddy soil was inhibited to some extent by the addition of the six fertilizers. At the same initial concentration of Cr(Ⅲ), the adsorption ratio and distribution coefficient of Cr(Ⅲ) decreased when the fertilizers were added. The effect of potassium chloride was most obvious. When the initial Cr(Ⅲ) concentration was 1 850 mg·L-1,the adsorption ratio and distribution coefficient were decreased by 17.3% and 35.2%, respectively. According to the adsorption maxima b calculated from Langmuir equation, the inhibition capability of six fertilizers on adsorption of Cr(Ⅲ) followed the order: KCl KH2PO4 NH4Cl CO(NH2)2 NH4NO3 Ca(NO3)2. The order of the adsorption potential E0 from De Boer-Zwikker equation was as follow: KCl KH2PO4 NH4Cl CO(NH2)2 NH4NO3 Ca(NO3)2 no fertilizer. Because of the different effects of fertilizers on the Cr(Ⅲ) adsorption, fertilizers should be reasonably used during cultivation in the soil containing high chromium in order to avoid the Cr mobilization and decrease its bio-availability.
