Bathymetry in Coastal area by Landsat ETM:Method and its Application in Beibu Bay

It is quite difficult to measure the water depth in very shallow area which is much variable,due to difficult arriving for survey ship.It is try to calculate water depth by multi - spectral Landsat ETM image,combining the real measured data,in the paper.The result suggested that the band 2 of Landsat ETM is better for calculating in the Beibu Bay and fitted formula is Z = -17.191n (L_2 -L_(S2))+56.40,where Z is water depth,L_2 and L_(S2) is reflectance and deep water reflectance of band 2 of band respectively.The calculating result can better fit for the real data,not only for the basic trend,but even for the tidal channel.Therefore it can be concluded that the method of calculating water depth by remote sensing is suitable for costal clear water area and be complementarity for real measure.
