The influence of fineness and content of slag on the compressive strength and fluidity of cement mortar was studied. Result of laboratory investigations reveals that the compressive strength decreases as the increment of slag amount when fineness of slag is low. The higher the fineness is, the slower the trend will be. Until the fineness of slag reaches a certain level, the compressive strength increases with increasing slag amount. At the same time, fineness and content of slag also have different effect on the early strength (3 d and 7 d)and the later strength (28 d) of cement mortar. Water demand changes with the fineness of slag. Cement added with grounded slag of which fineness is lower than 800 m 2/kg has little effect on the fluidity of cement martar. On the other hand the use of ultra fine slag of which fineness is higher than 800 m 2/kg in the cement gives a particularly lowering of the water demand of cement mortar. This paper provides the application of slag for high performance concrete with reference.
