Study on ultimate strength of RC shear wall based on shear resistant mechanism and failure modes

The purpose of the study is to develop an analysis model to evaluate the ultimate strength of RC shear wall based on the failure modes and shear resistant mechanism.According to the failure modes,shear resistant mechanism of RC shear wall can be simplified as a composition of concrete strut with an inclination of θ,lateral and longitudinal reinforcements.The calculation equations for ultimate strength were provided from shear resistant mechanism,and a program was developed to evaluate the strengths of RC shear walls.The ultimate strengths of 15 RC shear walls were analyzed with this program.The analysis results have good agreement with the test ones,therefore,the analysis model verified in this paper can simulate the ultimate strengths of RC shear walls,and can be used to evaluate the strength of RC shear wall.
