Research on Cam Turning Tool Holder Driven by Linear Motor

The cutting tool must move to and fro in a high speed in cam turning, so that the driving unit is required to provide a high speed, a high acceleration and a high positioning accuracy. In this paper, the structure of servo tool holder system, the driving unit selection and the mathematical model of the control system are investigated in detail. Linear motor is selected to drive the servo tool holder. A host slave control system with PC and DSP is developed for the requirement of high speed and real time servo. Combining with an advanced control strategy, the system developed can well meet the requirements in cam turning.
