SOIL MICROBIAL BIOMASS AND ITS ECOLOGICAL EFFECTS

The role of microorganisms in cycling of nutrients and degradation of organic matter in soils is critical in modern sustainable farming practices. The role of microorganisms in the turnover of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur compounds in soil has been a focus of several studies of productivity. Studies of soil microbial biomass in recent years, especially the effects of planting rotation, fertilizer application and heavy metal on soil microbial biomass are reviewed in this papper and the ecological effects of soil microbial biomass are also discussed.
