A Design and Development of The “Information Collector of Base Meter” Based on an Embedded Microprocessor

In this article, the author describes the characters of an embedded system and put sforward the principle of the system development as well as some factors under consideration when the software and hardware platform are taken, such as the supportability of a hardware platform for the operation system, the supportability of development tools, the application area, the need of customer, the cost and the difficulties of development. The author argues that the major function of an Information Collector of Base Meter (ICBM) based on an embedded microprocessor is to carry out the remote data collection and the communication management for various Base Maters (Power Meter, Water Meter, Gas Meter, etc.) by Client/Server mode. The author also designs a hardware system of the ICBM and provides the logical chart of its structure, the method of its software design and its schematic flow-charts of starting-up and running procedure, meanwhile the author introduces the procedure of data transmission up to a host via Ethernet in a few words.
