Peptic ulcer and acute gastric mucosal lesion are commonly and frequently encountered diseases.Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) have their own trait and predominance in treating and preventing gastric mucosal injury. In recent years, many scholars have been engaged in this research.Their works proved that many single and complex Chinese herbs had marked protective effect on gastric mucosal injury.Furthermore, they elucidated that TCM was able to prevent and treat gastric mucosal injury through different mechanisms, which included resisting gastric acid and pepsin; enforcing the gastric mucosal mucus barriers;improving and modulating the blood circulation of gastric mucosa;inducing the generation and release of gastric mucosal endogenous protective factors, promoting gastric mucosal cytoprotective effect;clearing oxygen free radical. All these research works provide scientific proof of TCM for the clinical application in anti-gastric mucosal injury.
