Motion Laws and Design Basis of the Knotter Wiper Mechanism

The intention of this paper is to study the motion laws and design basis of the D-knotter wiper mechanism,and research the movement node of the wiper and the twine holding disc. The equations of the cam profiles and the 3D model of the D-knotter were firstly obtained by reverse engineering. Secondly,based on the working condition and kinematic analysis,the curves of the angular displacement,the angular velocity,and the angular acceleration of the wiper were obtained. Finally,this study verified the kinematic analysis by simulation. The results indicated that when the cam rotation angle( φ) is 34. 32° the wiper angular velocity is the global maximum value. Around this angle,the knife should cut the rope and the twine holding disc should stop turning before cutting rope. The design intention of concave arc in the cam profiles is to promote the angular velocity of wiper when the knife is cutting rope. With the design of concave arc,the angular velocity of wiper can be promoted about 18%.
