Dynamic Variation of Soluble Sugar,Total Nitrogen and Malondialdehyde in Different Alfalfa Varieties and Their Effect on Alfalfa's Cold Resistance

Six different alfalfa varieties at home and abroad were acted as materials.The dynamic changes of soluble sugar,total nitrogen and malondialdehyde was studied,so as to find out their relationships with cold resistance,and then variation analysis and cluster analysis were performed.The results indicated that the soluble sugar content increased from the middle of September and reached the peak in the middle of November,then descended gradually till the middle of May.It showed that soluble sugar was a kind of cryoprotectants,and could improve alfalfa's cold resistance.The content of total nitrogen in alfalfa root was holding a high level during September and March,and increased evidently in April,but decreased in May.It was obvious that total nitrogen was not only related to alfalfa's resistance,but also related to alfalfa's regrowing and regreening in the next year.The content of malondialdehyde was high in September,then decreased gradually and reached the minimum in January,thereafter the content of malondialdehyde represented increasing trend.In addition,the analysis of the cold resistance ability in different alfalfa varieties indicates that Caoyuan No.2,Longmu 803 and Rambler alfalfa are varieties with high cold-resistance;Zhungeer alfalfa and Derby are varieties with middle cold-resistance;while Euver alfalfa is a variety with low cold-resistance.
