STUDIES ON BIOACTIVITIES OF CYNANCHUM KOMAROVII AL.AS INHIBITER AGAINST PLANT VIRUSES

Cynanchum Komarovii AL.Lijinski (Asclepiadaceae) is a species of wild shrub,widely distributed in the northeast part of the People′s Republic of China.The alcoholic extract from the aerial parts of C.Komarovii demonstrates potent antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV),potato virus Y(PVY) and turnip mosaic virus (TUMV).A bioassay directed fractionation approach has been adopted and phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids (G),including two known compounds,7 demethoxytylophorine (antofine) (1) and N oxide 7 demethexytylophorine (N oxide antofine) (2),have been isolated from the extract.Bioassay performed by the conventional half leaf method has revealed that the alkaloids (G) show high inhibitory activity against TMV,PVY and TUMV.The major active alkaloid (1) exhibits 60% inhibition against TMV at a concentration of 1.0×10 -6 g/ml,while a commercial antivirus DHT only exhibits 50% inhibition at 5×10 4 g/ml under the same conditions.
