Effect of Filtering Efficiency of Air Cleaner on Engine Wear

An dust-added accelerated wear test on the model CA6102 SI en- gine shows that the engine wear is greatly related to filtering efficiency of air cleaner. In this study, an empirical equation is derived which describes the rela-tionship between engine wear and air cleaner efficiency under different dust con-centrations. Using the equation the engine wear can be analyzed qualitatively, as well quantitatively from the point of view of air cleaner efficiency and the reason-able limits of air cleaner efficiency under various typical road conditions has been given. The empirical equation is a useful tool for studying engine wear, design-ing and evaluating engine air cleaner.
