Application of XPS Insulating Board in the Channel of South-to-North Water Transfer Project

Extruded polystyrene(XPS) insulation board was selected as anti-frost material of concrete diversion channel,and its compressive strength was investigated compared with expanded polystyrene(EPS) insulating board.Different methods were used to make surface treatment of XPS insulating boards,the friction coefficient of insulating board and the bonding strength between insulating board and concrete were investigated before and after the surface treatment.The experimental results showed that the compressive strength of XPS insulating board was far higher than EPS insulating board under the same deformation.The friction coefficients of insulating board as well as the bonding strength between insulating board and concrete were increased evidently by the construction of emulsified asphalt-stone layer.Engineering application indicates that XPS insulating board could meet the requirement of mechanized construction.
