The Turbulent Structure of Channel Flow with Suspended Sediment

Sediment movement in rivers and channels is closely related to the turbulent structure of channel flow. Thus, to study the properties of the sediment-laden flow is an important work not only in theory but also in practice. In this paper, some turbulent characteristics of the sediment-laden flow are presented on the basis of experiments in a perspex flume. The mean velocity and longitudinal component of the instantaneous velocity of flow with plastic sediment were measured by laser doppler velocity meter.Experimental data indicate that the von Karman constant x,is diminis-hed as the concentration of the plastic sediment is increased, and the turbulent intensity will increase with the increase of concentration of neutral buoyant particles.
