Sediment response and enlightenment from the Aswan High Dam

Cao Wenhong\ Chen Dong (China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research)  
The Aswan High Dam has been built for more than 30 years and causes worldwide disputes. Sediment deposit in the reservoir, river bed degradation and channel shifting in the lower Nile, and evolution of the Nile delta coast after the Aswan High Dam impounded are introduced in this paper. Some harnessing measures are also discussed. Comparing with the large projects in China, the enlightenment given by the Aswan High Dam is illustrated by the authors.
