Changes of Gamma-aminobutyric Acid Content and Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase, GABA Transaminase Activity in Motor Area of Rats Cortex after Acute Exhausting Swimming

Objective: Observing the changes of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content and glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), GABA transamine (GABA-T) activity in motor area of rats cortex after acute exhausting swimming and analyzing the relation between them and central inhibition. Method: Fluorescence analysis method was used to assay the GABA content and GAD, GABA-T activity. Result: the concent of GABA, GAD and GABA-T activity changed significantly in motor area of rat cortex before and after exhausting swimming and itsrecovery phase. Conclusion: GABA concent increased is the principal cause of the sports fatigue. GABA metabolism accelerated after exhaustion, the accumulation of GABA has a hysteresis. GABA metabolism enzymes can reflect the changes of central function.
