Expression of NOV and WISP-1 genes in prostate cancer tissues

Objective To investigate the expression of NOV and WISP-1 in prostate cancer tissues. Methods The expressions of NOV and WISP-1 in 37 prostate cancer tissues and 10 normal prostate tissues were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and immunochemistry respectively. Results The mRNA expression of NOV in carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues(P 0.05), moreover the mRNA expression of NOV in T3 and T4 phase tumor tissues was higher than in T1 and T2 phase tumor tissues (P 0.05). The mRNA expression of WISP- 1 was detected in 24 of the 37(64.27%), but no expression of WISP-1 in normal tissues was found. Immunocytochernistry analysis also showed that the expression of NOV in prostate cancer tissues was stronger than that in normal prostate tissues by (P 0.05). No expression of WISP-1 was detected in normal and cancerous tissues of prostate. Conclusion Gene NOV might be involved in carcinogenesis and progression of prostate cancer.
