STUDIES ON WHEAT QUALITY USING NITROGEN-15 Ⅰ.Influence of Late-stage Application of N-fertilizer on Grain Yield and protein Content of winter wheat.

Two varieties,NE701132(high in protein content)and BAU139 (normal)were grown in pots to study the influence of late-stage application of N-fertillizer on grain yield and protein content of winter wheat by applying ~(15)N-labelled(NH_4)_2SO_4(300kg/ha)in the following developmental stages,anther cell formation stage(A),tetrad stage(B), anthesis stage(C),and grain filling stage(D). The yield of grain was highest with treatment A.The grain yield decreased with the delaying of the fertilizer application,but the protein content was just the reverse,and the total protein yield(grain yield x protein content)remained unchanged.The protein content was highest with treatment C. It has been discovered that plants still have great potentiality of absorbing after anthesis and the rate of absorbing after anthesis is much higher than before it;N absorbed from anthesis to maturity is mostly distributed to the grain(82.3—94.5%)。
