Analysis of Seed and Maternal Genetic Effects for Exterior Quality Characters in Hybrid of Indica Rice

Shi Chunhai Zhu Jun (Zhejiang Agricultural University,Hangzhou,310029)  
Six male sterile lines(Zhenshan 97 A etc.)and three restorer lines(Cezao 2-2 etc.)were used in incomplete diallel crosses.Genetic analysis was conducted for exterior quality characters in indica hy- brid rice by using a new genetic model for quantitatively characters of seeds in cereal crops.The results indi- cated that brown rice length,brown rice width,ratio of brown rice length to width and chalkiness area were mainly controlled by maternal genetic effects,but brown rice length and ratio of brown rice length to width were also affected by seed direct additive effect.No seed direct dominant effect was found for all characters studied.Predicted genetic effects indicated that V_(20)A and 26715 were better than other parents for making a cross with good exterior quality.
