Analysis of Gliadin Allele Composition at Gli- 1 and Gli-2 Loci in Chinese Wheat Cultivars

Gliadin allele compositions of 36 Chinese wheat cultivars were studied by acidic polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (A-PAGE). foe results showed that there exists large variation in gliadin alleies at 6 main coding loci in Chinese wheat cultivars. The genetic diversity in 36 cultivars studied was rather high and Nei's genetic variation index (H) was 0.775. Fitty nine different gliadin alleies were identified in 36 Chinese wheat cultivars, of which alleies are shown to be tile most frequent: Gli-B2g (55.56 %). Gli-D1k (50 %). Gli-A1a (33.33 %). GIi-A2f (30.56 %). Gli-Blb (22.22 %). Gli-Dlf- (22.22 %). GIi-B2b (22.22%) and Gli-D2g (22.22 %). Four gliadin alleies (Gli-Dlf, Gli-A2f, Gli-B2g and Gli-D2g) which are very rare in the foreign countries. were more frequent in China. indicating that germplasm of Chinese wheat cultivars is rather Unique. It was also found that allele Gli Bll, a marker for 1BL. 1RS translocation, has a high frequency of occurrence in Chinese cultivars. In addition, the frequencies of some good-quality gliadin alleies, such as Gli-Bib, Gli-B2c, Gli-A2b, are very low in Chinese cultivars. This may be a reason for poor-quality of most Chinese wheat cultivars.
