Roles of Active Oxygen in Plant Active Defense and Signal Transduction

In plant pathogen (fungus, bacterium, virus) interaction,a mumber of active oxygens including superoxide anion, hydroxy radial, singlet oxygen and hydrogen peroxide are found at early stage of hypersensitive response of active plant defensive response which result from imcampatible pathogen infection. These active oxygens are suggested participating in or initiating plant hypersensitive response by ①participating in or initaiting peroxide of plant cell mebrane, cell wall lignification and cell wall proteins polymerization ②direct injure of the pathogen and ③ signal transduction. It has been assumed that "oxidative burst" may serve as a first line of plant defense against the invading pathogen at cell level.
