The Cultural Absence in English Teaching from the Disputation of "Laoshi" and "Teacher"

Language and culture are closely intertwined;therefore,we should pay attention to the comparison between eastern and western cultures in the process of English teaching so as to improve the student’s sensitivity and insights to them,and to avoid expressing English in a Chinese way.This thesis,through the analysis of the different cultures contained in the word "teacher" and the Chinese term "Laosh",tries to discuss how to promote the cultural permeation and pragmatic competence of the students in the process of English teaching and learning.
