Zhang Li-fei(PLA University of Foreign Languages,Luoyang 471003,China)
The layered structure of a sentence is the consequence of the grounding of event schema. The event schema arises from the human experience with the physical world and the consequent categorization, schematizing what happens in the physical world. The event schema must go through spatial grounding,temporal-aspectual grounding and epistemic grounding so as to be used in communication.Different schemas may have different grammatical behavior in terms of spatial,temporal-aspectual and epistemic grounding.
