The Cognitive Analysis of Chinese Verb-copying Construction by Means of Event-domain Multiple Inheritance Model

Wang Tian-yi(Sichuan International Studies University,Chongqing 400031,China)
Chinese verb-copying construction refers to a construction in which its predicate verb is reused in the same sentence, representing both the action(including objects) and its result.Up to now, many scholars at home and abroad have discussed this construction from the structural, classificational, functional, semantic and pragmatic perspectives, but they have not investigated it under the theoretical frame of Cognitive Linguistics and Construction Grammar. We have attempted to establish an event-domain multiple inheritance model(EMI) on the basis of the event-domain cognitive model(ECM) in cognitive linguistics and multiple inheritance model(MI) in construction grammar which can explain the mechanism of Chinese verb-copying construction.
