To explore the mediating role of thought suppression between difficulties in emotion regulation and depression in university students, and further clarify the influence factors of depression and their mechanism, 500 university students were surveyed by White Bear Suppression Inventory, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and Self-Report Depression Scale. Results found: Thought suppression, difficulties in emotion regulation and depression were positively associated to each other. Thought suppression not only had directly effect on depression, but also indirectly impacted the depression through the mediating role of difficulties in emotion regulation. Thus, thought suppression and difficulties in emotion regulation are important risk factors for the development of university students' depression.
