Adsorption of Fluoride from Aqueous Solution by Cerium(III)Loaded Collagen Fiber

A new adsorbent,Cerium(III) loaded collagen fiber(CeCF),was prepared.Experimental results indicated that the adsorption capacity of CeCF to F~(-) was 5.88 mmol.g~(-1),and Cerium(III) was nearly not leaked during adsorption process.The pH of solution significantly affects the adsorption,and the appropriate adsorption capacity was achieved in the pH range of 2-3.The adsorption isotherms can be described by the Langmuir equation,while the adsorption kinetics can-be well fitted by the pseudo-second-order rate model.The anions of SO_4~(2-),NO_3~(-),Cl~(-),CO_3~(2-)have no effect on the adsorption of fluoride except PO_4~(3-).The adsorbent can be regenerated by alkali solution when pH≥12.Column adsorption experiments indicated that breakthrough point was around 447 bed volume when feeding concentration of fluoride was 20 mg.L~(1) and flow rate was 0.7332 cm~(3).min~(-1).
