CAI Ke-lan;WANG Xin-yi;School of Chinese Language and Literature,Xizang Minzu University;
Ancient falling-tone relaxation in Yangxin dialect evolved in two directions. Most of ancient falling-tone Chinese characters are incorporated into flat-tone Chinese characters; a small number of them are incorporated into ancient entering-tone Chinese characters,which is also called falling-tone relaxation for variation.This paper reveals this phenomenon. The cause is explored from four aspects,namely the remaining entering-tone Chinese characters,theinheritance of characters in the middle ancient times,changing into entering-tone Chinese characters,influence of collocation words.Meanwhile,professor Huang Qunjian's view is discussed that all falling-tone Chinese characters in Beijing dialect which do not come from ancient enteringtone is read as flat-tone in Yangxin Dialect now.
