A Study on the Application of Micro-modifications on Gear Tooth Profile to Noise Reduction of Automotive Transmission

Aiming at the gear whine in automotive transmission,and by using software RomaxDesigner,gear meshing behavior is analyzed and a model for the static transmission errors of gear is set up.Combined with contact pattern test and by adopting multi-factor experimental design,the optimum micro-modification parameters of gear tooth profile are obtained.The micro-modification of gear tooth profile is then performed accordingly and the peak transmission errors and the sound pressure levels at driver position before and after profile modification are compared.The results show that through rational tooth profile modifications,the static transmission errors reduce and the gear whine noise drops by 10dB.
