On the Obstacle Crossing Problem of Multi-Axle Vehicles

A mechanical model for the obstacle-crossing of hyperstatic multi-axle vehicle is established and the calculation formula for surmountable obstacle height is derived. On this basis,the intrinsic correlations between the obstacle height and various parameters such as wheel radius,adhesion coefficient,axle load and the number of axles are analyzed. Finally with three different drive types of vehicles( 4 × 4、8 × 8 and 8 × 6) as real examples,various obstacle performance parameters under different adhesion coefficients are calculated. Analyses on the results show that selecting big wheels,raising adhesion coefficient,increasing the number of axles and equalizing axle loads are the effective measures for improving obstacle-crossing ability.
