The Nonlinear Sloshing of Liquid in a Rectangular Container Under Pitching Excitation

In this paper, variational principle and new kind of Lagrange function for the sloshing of liquid in a container which subjected to forced pitching are proposed. The sloshing of liquid in a tank with pitching can be solved analytically by means of the preceding variational principle and Lagrange function. As a example, we consider the sloshing of liquid in a two-dimensional, rigid, rectangular, open tank without baffles which is forced to oscillate harmonically with small amplitude of pitching oscillation in the vicinity of the m th natural frequency for the liquid inside the tank under steady-state conditions. As concem of the waveamplitude, comparison between theory and experiment show good agreement at certain frequency range.
