Numerical Analysis of Wall Rock in an Underground LPG Tunnel

Influenced by various factors,the stability of wall rock in an underground LPG tunnel is of vital importance to its safe service. With analytical methods exact solutions can be obtained,which are applicable to round-shaped tunnels only;while numerical methods can be applied to the calculation of stress,deformation and plasticity distribution for various tunnel shapes.In this paper,FEM software is applied to analyze the influence of tunnel shape on the wall stability of rock to determine a reasonable tunnel shape;the distributions of stress and strain along depth and the influence of support type on wall rock deformation are discussed to determine an economical and reasonable support type;and hence a sound basis for stability design of tunnel wall rock under a given geological condition is established.
