Proportion Optimization and Performance of Cement with High Volume Content of Mineral Admixture

The proportion optimization of fly ash and furnace slag in cement with high volume content of mineral admixture is studied in this paper when all raw materials of cement are ground in only one mill. When the total content of mineral admixture is 44% and the grinding time is kept constant,particle distribution and mechanical strength are studied for cements with different proportions of fly ash and furnace slag and the influence of addition of high content of mineral admixture on pore structure and microstructure of cement paste are also studied. The results show that the cement has the best particle distribution and strength when the content of furnace slag is 27%~34% of the total content of mineral admixture. The high content addition of mineral admixture with suitable proportion results in a improved pore structure of cement paste with reduced or even on content of pores with diameter of more than 100 μm and an evidently increased number of pores with diameter of less than 0.1 μm. On the other hand,micro-structure becomes more homogeneous and denser and large number of assembled layers of Ca(OH) 2 crystals disappear as a result of such mineral admixtures.
