Surgical operation under local anethesia for adult obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Objective To study the differences between conventional total-ansethetic uvulopalatophar-yngoplasty(UPPP) operation, i.e., the therapy of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS), and the improved UPPP for OSAS under local-anesthetic, sitting and awaking state.Method The 368 cases had been subjected to improved UPPP in recent 5 years,and received investigation of post-operative effects and observation of complication during and after the operation.Results PSG showed that there were significant differences in blood oxygen saturation between pre- and post- operaton(P0.05),sleep structure was distinct changed; After operation apnea disappreared. No complication was found during and after operation.Conclusion Operation under local anesthesia and sitting state is better than the conventional one with general anesthesia for OSAS.
