Effect of alloying on the heat resistance of Mg-Al based alloys

The bad heat resistance of Mg-Al based alloys is due to the poor thermal stability of Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase and its discontinuous precipitation at elevated temperature.The improvement of heat resistance of Mg-Al based alloys is mainly achieved by adding alloying elements to matrix to suppress the formation of Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase,and introduce new higher thermal stable precipitates at ground boundaries and matrix to hinder both grain boundary and dislocation movement at elevated temperature.The creep phenomenon in Mg-Al based alloys and the effect of alloying on the heat resistance of Mg-Al based alloys are introduced.
