Restudy on the Microfossils of Doushantuo Formation in Yangtze Gorges

CAO Fang(Tianjin institute geology and mineral resources, Tianjin 300170)
The Doushantuo age is an important stage in biological evolution, marked by great changes not only in animal kingdom, but also in plant kingdom. The diverse microfossils have been reported from in the Doushantuo black cherts from eastern Yangtze Gorges (Xing,1978; Yin.L,1978,1985,1991; Cao,1985; Yin.C,1988,1990,1999; Zhang,Z,1981,1984; Zhang.Y.1998). This assemblage consists of planktonic spheroids, benthic filaments and vase-shaped microfossils. Recently, the author has restudied the assemblage in thin sections of Doushantuo Formation. The microfossils are three-dimensionally preserved in a structurally little altered condition, characterized by appearance of abundant elements of the spinose acritarch. They are mainly composed of Baltispheridium, Filisphaeridium ,Tianzhushania and Comaspheridium etc.. The spinose acritarch and vase-shaped microfossils in silicified carbonate facies from the Doushantuo Formation are similar to that from the Spitsbergen. It seems that the Doushantuo sediments is compare to the Svanbergfjellet Formation in northeastern Spitsbergen.Nowhere the conclusion should be lopsided, owing to the fossils are only fund from a handful of the thin sections. These microfossils may represent the part of the ecological environment from the Doushantuo formation in eastern Yangtze Gorges. 
