Secondary structural characteristic of eukaryotic gene splicing sites

SUN Yingfei, FAN Xiaodan, LI Yanda(Department of Automation,Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China)
The secondary structures of splicing sites and alternative splicing sites in eukaryotic genes were studied by analyzing 784 ESTverified donor and receptor sites from 148 human genes and 418 ESTverified selectively spliced donor and receptor sites from 101 human genes with RNA secondary structure prediction software. Analysis of the distribution of splicing sites and alternative splicing sites revealed certain characteristics of the distribution of splicing sites and alternative splicing sites within the secondary RNA structure. The results suggest that, during RNA splicing and alternative splicing, transacting elements have fixed structural features. These structural features may explain the splicing of eukaryotic genes and alternative splicing mechanisms, which may facilitate further study of the mechanism underlying the recognition and control of eukaryotic gene splicing.
