Influence of mechanical grinding on the cementitious properties of coarse particles in steel slag

The influence of mechanical excitation on the cementitious properties of coarse particles of steel slag was studied by measuring the exothermic rate,non-evaporable water content,thermogravimetric curve,morphologies,and compressive strength of steel slag pastes.The results show that increasing the fineness of the coarse steel slag particles enhances the exothermic rate,non-evaporable water content,and compressive strength of the paste.However,the cementitious properties of the ground particles are still very weak,producing few hydration products in a low strength paste.Thus,mechanical excitation on the cementitious properties of the coarse particles in steel slag has little effect,so further grinding of the coarse particles in steel slag is uneconomical.
